A Weekend of Speed, Rain and Late Late Drama..

So the 2009 edition of the Malaysian GP came and went, and boy was it one to remember, not necessarily for the right reasons. As most of you already know, it rained out. So bad in fact that the race had to be red flagged and was not restarted. I for one can't remember the last time that had happened. My day however started a little earlier than the prematurely ended race... had already left the condo with 3 of my friends + my girl at around 12. Yes she came along as well for her very first formula 1 experience. We expected to reach SIC before 3 but due to several delays and a need for lunch, we only left KL at 3!!

This year's ticket

And we could already see the rain clouds heading down south as most of the journey to Sepang was accompanied by dark rain clouds. It did drizzle a little bit but to our surprise, when we actually reach Sepang, it was all sunny and bright! I was saying to the rest of em, the bomohs must be really working hard today huh. Wonder how many did they use. But no matter how powerfull they were, one thing they couldn't prevent was the traffic jam! Massive massive jam which only happens once a year here. Took us almost an hour to get from the toll to the carpark!

The action gets underway

But once we were at the entrance, that familiar feeling of adrenaline, excitement and joy flooded my systems. There was a sea of people there. Reports said ticket sales dropped by 40,000 tickets cos of the current economy crisis, but judging by the people that were here, I don't think it had any impact on them. And you know you are kinda late when the national anthem is singing and you are still at least 400m away from your seats. Gives me a reason to not stand still for once!

Dark sky above the SIC..

This time round, I was seated at the south tower, like right before the final corner, there la I sat. It was actually quite a good place to sit can see most of the final corners and a big screen wasn't that far from us. So that makes it 3 different part of the track in 3 races! Woohoo!! Race got underway and as expected the 3 cars with the diffusal had a bright start, getting past everyone after just 3 laps. Was pretty much of the same througout the next 20 + laps or so, sad to see McLaren with only Hamilton left battling at the middle of the pact.

Racing in the wet at 200+ km/h ... Beat that Rempits!

Then around lap 27+ it all started to change, could see dark clouds looming in with lightning and thunder along side. Rain did eventually came, but it wasn't as bad as I've seen before. I base this on the splatter left by the cars behind them. Still wasn't as high. Saw on tv at the German GP where the splatter from the car was at least 10 ft high and driver visibility was near 0. But the rain did get progressively heavier and by lap 33 the flag marshal in front of us decided to wave the red flag which signifies the stop of the race. I explained to my dear that they would restart the race once the conditions get better and if its within the 120 minutes and that this kinda things often happen in f1.

Well, one thing good that did turn out from the rain was we decided to try our luck entering the grandstands facing the pits since there were no one guarding the entrance. Usually there will be a couple of people checking tickets at the entrance of each section of the grandstand to make sure you get what you paid for. But since it was raining, the fella also took cover some where else la. So we kinda sneaked into the section where all the Petronas Malaysia staff was seated. All wore the same shirts, those with Ferrari or McLaren at least wore the Petronas cap!

It was like this for quite sometime..

So we 5 sesat fellas just coolly, sat down couple of seats opposite the podium! And they even have free drinks! Now those who have been to F1 will know that there is no such thing as a RM1 bottle of water let alone a free drink. We asked the guy taking care how much and he said it was free. So what else, we grabbed a couple of bottles of water and some can ice lemon tea! As we sat down, we did get a couple of 'who the fuck are you' stares from the people around us. But we just buat slumber ni. Sadly though, the race was not to be continued and what was left was the trophy presentation.

Would've been great if the race did restart. Then I can say I got to sit at the RM1200 seats for only RM100! Well, I did get offered 2 RM1200 seats earlier in the week but I declined cos 1) I already bought my tickets 2) Sit with own friends better than sitting with dad's friends in a way that don't have to answer those questions ya know, and I get to curse openly! hahaha.. So when it all came to an end, Jensen Button won again no thanks to the rear diffusal, Heidfield got second without the diffusal! and Glock got 3rd. Sad Hamilton only manage 6th = 1 pt but happy that Ferrari finished outside the points!!

Najibs' first order of duty was to present the trophy to Button.

If getting into the circuit was a bitch, than getting out was a bitch and a half! It started to rain again which caused the already muddy roads at the parking to get even muddier. Some of the cars coming out of the parking looked like they've been through a rally race! A Golf GTi had its disc breaks in a shit.. was creaking (if thats the right term) the whole way, a Lotus Elise was no longer blue but brown, and a Harrier looked like it got a full mud bath!

We actually wanted to go to the after party since my girl gilakan that Jamiroquai band, but seeing the number of people queuing to get in, we said fuck it! By the time my friend got his car out of the parking, it was already 830! And with the jam ahead, I estimated that we would make it back just in time for the Match! But bitch ass luck got worse as we had a flat tire along the way. A F1 pit crew takes roughly 4 seconds to change a tire (they do all 4 simultaneously so counts as 1)... we took 20 minutes! All in all, it was not the best race I've attended in terms of value for money, in terms of excitement, it was okay.. But will I come back given the chance? In a heartbeat!!

I'll never get bored with moments like these! Get in there!!

So by the time we reached to the mamak was 20 minutes past the kick off time. Ronaldo had already put us ahead with a superb freekick into the top corner. But what was to follow really bitched me off. Villa scored 2 goals from 2 headers..Free headers!! Defenders dunno mark what! I thought 'oh wel, here we go again....'. Yong already sms-ed me saying he'll go to work emo tomorrow. But on the 80th minute, that boy Ronaldo did it again, a swing from his left boot and in the ball went! 2-2 game on!! I thought ok.. good result la..

But the best was yet to come, the win from the dead attitude so famous in the 90's came back. And 2 minutes into injury time, about the same when that Jew scored for Liverpool, up stepped Macheda with a sweet Cryuff turn and an unstoppable right foot curler into the top net. Reminds me alot of Thierry Henry at his best. I swore the whole mamak stood up and shout! At least me and my friend did!! High 5 me so hard I thought my skin tore! lol... Left the mamak with a sore throat! EPL title here we come!!

Ladies and gentleman introducing Federico Macheda

For those of you who don't like or don't understand football, its moments like this that will make you change your mind!

Hmm... guess it's a long enough post this time.. I should be coming home this weekend to discuss kinda serious matters with my parents. IF I'm able to go out, we go watch Fast n Furious ok Phang?
